How Dr. Ron Paul Cured My Apathy

RON PAUL U.S.A. | Rachel Bolch Thach | May 1, 2012
Guest contributor Rachel Bolch Thach was recently elected as a GOP delegate in the state of Texas, and will be sharing her experiences as part of an ongoing series as she fights for Ron Paul!  Check out her story and be sure to follow her journey on Twitter!

My journey to becoming a Ron Paul supporter has been rather unexpected. Back in 2008 I would have never guessed I’d be where I am today!  I am the mother of a 2 year
old boy, a wife, a student and a bookkeeper at my father’s small oil & gas company in Texas. I’m also a liberty activist, a peace advocate, a Constitutionalist, and an avid Paul-Bot! Things weren’t always this way; so I’m going back up a bit and tell you just how Dr. Paul cured my apathy.

I have always voted Republican, because I believe in the party’s general platform – abiding by the Constitution, a belief in the work ethic (I, myself, have been working full time since the age of 15), and personal responsibility, etc..  However, by the end of George W. Bush’s second term, I was turned off by the hypocrisy coming from both parties.  By this time, I was numb to all the rhetoric, and I couldn’t help but view politicians as corrupt liars and puppets, whose strings were being pulled by the wealthy bankers and elite establishment.   Needless to say, like most of my peers, I became intentionally ignorant and I could not even vote in 2008.

In many ways, 2009 was a life changing year for me.   That year, I married my wonderful husband, Steven Thach.  When we found out that I was pregnant, we both decided to go back to school, in addition to working full time.  Then, on June 29th, 2009, I gave birth to the coolest, sweetest, most loving, adorable, intelligent, charismatic, charming (I could go on and on forever) little baby boy on the planet.  We named him Bo, which holds several meanings, among them, commanding, handsome, and respected.   The moment that I gazed into the eyes of my little Prince Charming, my life changed forever.   I knew that I had to do everything I possibly could to make the world a better place for him.

This same year, my husband introduced me to Dr. Ron Paul.  When I first heard him speak, I felt the honesty, conviction, and passion in his words and body language.   I knew that this man was speaking from his heart of hearts.   I immediately sought to learn more about him.  I eagerly searched the web for video clips of him speaking.   I also read about him.  The more and more I found out about him, the more excited I became.   I learned that he was a doctor who delivered over 4,000 babies – no wonder he wasn’t like any other politician I had ever encountered!

Everything that comes out of his mouth is logical and common sense – especially when it comes to peace, monetary policy, economic policy, foreign policy, freedom and personal liberty, to name a few . On top of that, he was a twelve-term congressman with an incredibly untarnished, consistent record.  I also found out that over the span of his years in Congress, he acquired the nickname “Dr. No,”because he never voted to increase the size or the scope of the Federal government or the power of the Executive Branch.  He never voted to raise taxes, never voted against the Constitution, never took a government sponsored junket, never voted for a Congressional pay raise, never voted for an unbalanced budget - the list goes on and on!  He is the epitome of consistency & integrity.  He has written books with well laid out, rational plans to accomplish all of his goals; citing historical examples to back up his plans.  He has the establishment so afraid, and they very well should be, because people like me, who were just going through life, apathetically are waking up every day because of him and we are going to fight for him and spread his ideas.  There is so much more that I could say about the good doctor who cured my apathy, but I’m going to leave it at that for now.

Back in 2008, I never would have guessed that on April 14, 2012 I would get elected as a delegate in the GOP!   But Dr. Ron Paul is not an ordinary politician. In many ways, he’s like a modern day prophet. I’m going to end by sharing one of the videos that opened my eyes to Ron Paul, his famous speech, “What If.”

  1. Dr. Paul is inspiring people around the world. I'm from Poland and many of my frinds are confused why I'm so interested in "american politician that even do not have any chance to be elected". When I tell them about Ron Paul and his believes then they say: It is pity that we haven't anyone like him in our government. I'm glad that you people are still so strong about true values and liberty. It is inspiration to many other people around the world. I hope that with American example some nations will open they're eyes to. I'm praying for happy end of this great storry.
    And about your personal story...

  3. The good doctor has cured my apathy in the same way. I was disappointed when he did not get the needed votes to continue running in the last primary. Both the GOP and the DNC are a waste of time watching a bunch of elitists squirm as they lie about what they say they are for. It has become a system where the best and most financed Liar wins. This is not America! Not my America anyway! Good luck to you!
