Now that it's official President Barack Obama also won Florida, enlarging his Electoral College tally over Republican challenger Mitt Romney 332 to 206, the so-called Republican Party's soul searching is in full swing.

And one of the most recurrent "come to Jesus" moments has to do with America's shifting demographics to a more diverse and younger group of voters who, while keeping some of the same political positions than their parents and grandparents, are coming of age with newer values that are more in tune with 21st century America.

It is hardly a secret that younger voters propelled then Senator Barack Obama to victory in 2008. And, surprisingly for Republicans, millennials also went to the polls — in even larger numbers — in 2012 to support the president's reelection.

And though most Republicans dismiss millennial voters as a naturally liberal constituency, preferring to focus their efforts on winning over older white men and other "traditionally" Republicans groups, the party missed a huge opportunity in 2012 due to their shortsightedness and intransigence.

Representative Ron Paul's (R-Texas) young and passionate following could have helped the GOP balance the Democrats' dominance among millennial voters. This group of liberty-minded college-aged lovers of the United States' founding principles and the Constitution were vocal supporters of Paul's 2012 presidential run all the way to the states and national conventions — on an often rocky path during which they were mistreated by the establishment wing of the Republican Party.

So instead of embracing the younger and more libertarian wing of the party, old Republicans —solely focused on coronating Mitt Romney as the party's standard bearer for 2012 — alienated this young blood that could have helped them not only to bring more millennials into the GOP tent but also to project conservative values (fiscally ones, that is) into the future.
There is no denying that between libertarian leaning 2012 Republican candidate Ron Paul's unsatisfied following and Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson's burgeoning

support, there hasn't been a shortage of talk about third party candidates and runs during the current election season.

The increasingly popular notion is also a testament to American voters' discontent with the current menu of options, namely an incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama running on a slow economy and high unemployment, and Mitt Romney, a Republican challenger so far unable to articulate a compelling vision for a faster economic recovery amid the numerous gaffes that are threatening with dooming his chances on November 6.

America's latest, and most successful, third party run was during the 1992 presidential election when founder of the Reform Party, Ross Perot, ran against Republican incumbent George H. W. Bush and young Democratic challenger Bill Clinton. Perot didn't win any electoral votes. However, he gained an impressive 19% of the popular vote giving independent voters a voice in a two party system that seems bent to crush any potential dissidence.

Perot is back in the news with the announcement of his upcoming autobiography, Ross Perot: My Life, due in January 2013. He has previously authored a couple of books, Ross Perot: My Life and the Principles for Success and United We Stand. Though few of Ron Paul and Gary Johnson supporters would identify with Perot today, his return to the spotlight in this particular moment is a reminder that third party candidates also have a voice in the American political process,

Johnson seems the most likely candidate to repeat Perot's feat during the current election cycle. Though the Libertarian Party nominee and former governor of New Mexico will be on the ballot in all 50 states, he probably won't be allowed to participate in the presidential debates because of a National Commission of Presidential Debates rule that demands a candidate must poll around the 15% figure in order to be able to participate. Currently, Johnson, who nonetheless filed an anti-trust claim against the CPD, polls half of that.

And, even when third party candidates' haters dismiss voters who express their intention of considering a third option as people "throwing their votes away" while helping elect an unintended candidate, those who are thinking about writing Ron Paul or any other candidate in, or those thinking about voting for Gary Johnson, should not let anybody into bullying them out of the right to cast their vote as the see fit. Cause, as The Joker famously stated it in Christopher Nolan's film The Dark Knight: "it's about sending a message."

Over the course of the last month, the Liberty movement as gone from focused and dedicated to scattered and frustrated. Even with the understanding going into the GOP

Convention that Ron Paul would almost certainly not win the nomination, our focus was still 100% on Ron Paul's involvement and those loyal Ron Paul delegates. Our resolve was only strengthened by the unfair treatment of Dr. Paul and his supporters in Tampa, and we came out of it ready to take on the world.

Dr. Paul had many opportunities to focus his supporters attention on a new goal, however he chose to leave it up to us to make our own decisions as "free-thinkers". Whether you agree with that choice or not, the fact is that we are now floating in purgatory as a movement with no clear place to focus our influence and passion.

We are left with a number of options to consider as we head into the voting booth in November. One of those options is to "write-in" Ron Paul. Thousands and thousands of people with make this choice, a choice that I would like to address now.

Ask yourself this question, and be honest with yourself. Why are you "writing-in" Ron Paul? What are your goals and reasonings for this choice? Again, be honest with yourself.

I have personally met thousands of Ron Paul supporters. They come in all shapes and sizes, colors, backgrounds, and beliefs. That is what makes us so powerful. We also come with some very different agendas.

I have given tremendous thought to why someone would "write-in" Ron Paul. I can come up with only one reason at this point, and it is not a reason anyone will be happy about. The reason is, selfishness. Why? A vote for Ron Paul now is a vote that will make you feel better about yourself. He is not asking for your vote in any way. Why would you vote for a man that is not asking for your vote? At the end of the day, the hard truth is this... Many people are voting for Ron Paul so that they can say "I voted for Ron Paul!". Many supporters are 100% anti-establishment in every way, and they view this vote as a vote against the entire system. They want to be able to proudly say that they did not given in so they feel better about themselves, even though their vote was not counted.

Now, ask yourself this question. If you could cast the 1 deciding vote in the election, in which Obama, Romney, and Gary Johnson were tied, who would you vote for then? It's all up to you now, you cannot "write-in" Ron Paul. With one vote, you have a chance to change the world. If you chose Gary Johnson, that is exactly who you should vote for in November, period.

If you are so concerned with what people think of your vote, then vote for Gary Johnson and tell people, "I voted for Liberty and Freedom. Beyond that, it's none of your damn business!"

Ron Paul doesn't plan to endorse anyone for president.

“I like people to make up their own minds,” said Paul in a very short interview with Reason after speaking at the Liberty Political Action Conference in Chantilly, Virginia.

my experience. There was a certain point when we all realized that the convention was a total sham. The neoconservatives loved it and the Ron Paul supporters were baffled with the unfair rulings. Later, as the states announced their preselected delegate counts, the Romney supporter beside me proceeded to laugh in my face. After a while I had to get up and walk towards the friendlier Ron Paul delegates in order to avoid the immature ridicule coming from the neocons. After Romney was given the nomination, I walked out to see if I could find a reporter to give my opinion about the absurdities that I witnessed, with no success. A lady came up to me and asked me if I was working at the convention. I said no and she said, “Well you kind of are working, you’re a delegate, right?” I said yes and she saw my Ron Paul button on my hat, quickly changed her expression and said, “Oh you’re a Ron Paul…” and walked away. My husband and I looked at each other, stunned. I really thought that these were going to be classy, conservative and humble people, but boy was I wrong. After speaking with some fellow Ron Paul delegates, we decided to leave the convention for the day. The treatment of Ron Paul and his delegates on this day was disrespectful, ruthless and unfair; worst of all, it also seemed to be business as usual in the unfamiliar game of politics.

We were able to hitch a ride back to the hotel with a bunch of Ron Paul supporters from Texas. One of them was close to Ron and Carol Paul, having worked on his campaign since 2008. On the way to the hotel she shared tear jerking stories about her experience with Ron and Carol. By the time we arrived at the hotel I was feeling depressed, not because of my own treatment, but rather, because of the RNC’s treatment of my hero. Then I got online and saw the news about Ron Paul and his family being detained and harassed by the TSA after leaving the RNC. I could not believe what I was reading. My heart grew so heavy that I began to weep. I was not even sure if I wanted to go to the convention the next day.

On the second day of the convention, I woke up feeling down, but I was ready to make the best out of the day. I was also feeling a little uplifted knowing that I would be able to watch the tribute that the RNC planned for Ron Paul and was less excited to hear Rand Paul’s speech. This time, we took a rental car to the convention, and were able to find parking a block away. As we walked to the convention center, we passed the same excessive amount of security and protesters. I entered the convention center, parted ways with my husband and went to my delegation, as the tribute was a few minutes away. When the tribute came on the crowd cheered passionately. It was very short and vague. The phrase, “too little too late” encapsulates my thoughts on the RNC’s horrendous attempt at enticing Ron Paul supporters! This “tribute” was but a sham! All of the Ron Paul delegates, alternates and guests that I spoke to were, like me, completely alienated by the whole debacle that was the RNC.

According to a new poll conducted by CNN/ORC, libertarian candidate Gary Johnson has developed a following that may tip the election in this close election. Chalk that up as a victory for Ron Paul, who has worked to put the libertarian ideals that Johnson espouses on the map in this election season, helping to develop an enormous following for Johnson, particularly amongst young people.

According to the poll, 3% of likely voters say they will vote for Johnson in November, and of registered voters, that number ticks upward slightly to 4% of the population. In an election that may only be decided by several percentage points total, that may have a real impact.

What's even more interesting is which way the libertarian voters swing. The poll finds that the inclusion of Johnson in the race hurts Republican candidate Mitt Romney more than President Obama. Obama leads 52% to 46% when he and Romney are the only two candidates in question, buy Romney's support goes down three percentage points with the inclusion of Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein on the ticket. By contrast, Obama's support drops only one percentage point.

So how does Ron Paul factor into all of this? Paul opted to run on the Republican Party ticket, rather than as a libertarian third party candidate, likely to ensure he would get to speak at major Republican events, like the primary debates. Johnson, on the other hand, dropped out of the Republican race and accepted the libertarian nomination for president on May 5, 2012.

While he has not won over all Ron Paul supporters, Johnson espouses many of the same ideas as Paul, such as marijuana legalization and rolling back defense spending. Evidently, the libertarian message is developing more traction.

Back in the 2000 election, third party candidate Ralph Nader took some heat for remaining in the race and taking votes away from Democrat Al Gore, who went on to lose to George W. Bush by a slim margain. Could Johnson be the Nader of 2012?

Paul. Second, people realize that he will most likely be on the ballot in all 50 states and will play a factor in the final outcome of the election.

The New York Times published an article over the weekend that discussed five crucial factors to watch as we head toward the election. Gary Johnson's influence was one of those factors! The New York Times wrote...

__________________________________________

"There is one factor in the campaign that has yet to get much attention but could influence the outcome: third-party candidacies in many states, most notably that of former Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico, the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee.

Mr. Johnson, who argued for free markets, fewer wars and the legalization of marijuana during his brief run for the 2012 Republican nomination, hardly shows up in polls. But he is on the ballot in more than three dozen states and is trying for more.

Mr. Johnson shares some of the cross-party appeal of Representative Ron Paul of Texas, who complimented him publicly last week. Advisers said Mr. Johnson’s potential for cutting into Mr. Romney’s support was greatest in Florida, where Mr. Romney is basically tied with Mr. Obama, but could also have an impact in Arizona, Nevada, New Hampshire and North Carolina.

They said Mr. Johnson’s potential to eat into Mr. Obama’s support was greatest in Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico, Oregon and Wisconsin.

Republican officials have already tried to challenge Mr. Johnson’s place on the ballot or are trying to in states including Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Many of the challenges have failed — courts recently rejected efforts to throw him off the ballot in Virginia — and Roger Stone, a Republican Party veteran who is advising Mr. Johnson, said he was optimistic that Mr. Johnson would qualify in all 50 states.

The Republican Party of Virginia also failed in a bid last week to remove former Representative Virgil Goode from the presidential ballot there. He is the nominee for the Constitution Party and could draw disaffected Tea Party adherents away from the Republican Party."

__________________________________________

This being said, Gary Johnson has the potential to do much more than simply steal a few votes from Obama or Romney. Ron Paul Nation is very divided right now on how to best support liberty in November. If Ron Paul supporters can turn their attention toward Gary Johnson, he may be able to get into the debates next month. At that point, anything can happen!

Election watchdog group Open Debates has called on the Commission on Presidential Debates to make public the secret debate contract negotiated by the Obama and

Romney campaigns. Many want to see the details of what candidates have agreed to and to see how exclusionary the document is toward other candidates.

Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson sent the Commission a letter officially requesting his inclusion in the upcoming October presidential debates and is waiting to hear their decision. Johnson makes the case, those who are expected to be on the ballot in all 50 states and the District of Columbia should be included to debate.

Robert F. Bauer of the Obama campaign and Benjamin L. Ginsberg of the Romney campaign negotiated a detailed contract that dictates many of the terms of the 2012 presidential debates. The Commission on Presidential Debates, a private corporation created by the Republican and Democratic parties to serve their interests, has agreed to implement the debate contract. In order to shield the major party candidates from criticism, the Commission on Presidential Debates is concealing the contract from the public and the press.

“In denying voters access to critical information about our most important electoral events, the Commission on Presidential Debates is more concerned with the partisan interests of the two major party candidates than the democratic interests of the voting public,” said George Farah, Executive Director of Open Debates.

Previous debate contracts negotiated by the major party campaigns have contained anti-democratic provisions that weakened debate formats, excluded third-party candidates and prohibited additional debates from being held. For example, the 2004 debate contract negotiated by the Kerry and Bush campaigns contained the following provisions:

“The parties agree that they will not (1) issue any challenges for additional debates, (2) appear at any other debate or adversarial forum with any other presidential or vice presidential candidate, or (3) accept any television or radio air time offers that involve a debate format or otherwise involve the simultaneous appearance of more than one candidate.”

For all four debates: “The candidates may not ask each other direct questions, but may ask rhetorical questions.”

For the town-hall debate: “Prior to the start of the debate, audience members will be asked to submit their questions in writing to the moderator. … The moderator shall approve and select all questions to be posed by the audience members to the candidates.”

For the town-hall debate: Audience members shall not ask follow-up questions or otherwise participate in the extended discussion, and the audience member's microphone shall be turned off after he or she completes asking the question.”

Every four years, the Commission on Presidential Debates implements and conceals the debate contract jointly drafted by the Republican and Democratic campaigns. Despite claiming to "have no relationship with any political party or candidate," the Commission was created by, and for, the Republican and Democratic parties. In 1986, the two parties actually ratified an agreement “to take over the presidential debates,” and the Commission has sponsored every debate since 1988. The Commission is co-chaired by Frank Fahrenkopf, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, and Mike McCurry, former Press Secretary to Democratic President Bill Clinton.

A large are number of these voters can be grouped under the label "Obama Haters". Yes, they love Ron Paul and would have welcomed the opportunity to vote for him, but their main concern now is to make sure Obama does not get four more years. They will vote "against Obama" for whichever candidate they feel has the best opportunity to defeat him, which they view now as Romney. Actually, some of these voters may not have voted for Ron Paul in the end if they did not feel he could win.

If you are an "Obama Hater", I want to speak directly to you now. I am 100% with you in terms of hating Obama! He is driving our country toward the edge of the cliff faster than any Republican could dream of, and he is hell bent on pushing his socialist agenda down our throats. The main issue you need to understand is that Mitt Romney will not change the course we are on in any meaningful way.

Think about this situation for just a moment. Ron Paul, who fully understands that Obama is killing our country, was still not willing to endorse Romney as someone that could help the situation. Endorsing Romney would help his son tremendously, and in fact most likely would have lead to a speaking role for Ron Paul at the GOP Convention. That speech would have been Ron Paul's most watched and highly publicised speech of his entire life! All of these benefits, and yet still, Ron Paul was not willing to endorse Mitt Romney?
The other issue I want to address with many of you is the fact that you will not vote for Gary Johnson because you don't think he can win. Perhaps you feel that a vote for Gary Johnson is a wasted vote and will only help Obama.

Again, think about this scenario for a moment. You are voting for Romney, because you think he has a chance to win, which means that a whole lot of other people are already saying they will vote for him. You might consider a vote for Gary Johnson, if a large number of other people were already saying they would vote for him. No offence, but you are simply following the masses, going with the crowd, behaving like a sheep. You are not embodying what Ron Paul has stood for, and against, his entire career. Ron Paul stood up for what was right when nobody else stood with him. He often was the only one that voted "no" on key issues because it went against his principles. As Ron Paul supporters, we owe it to him to stand up and do what we know is right, even if it means we might stand alone!

My plea to you is to stand up now and vote for Liberty! Gary Johnson will be on the ballot in all 50 states, with his name right next to Obama and Romney. His votes will be counted and the results will be available for everyone to see. Do what you know is right! Vote FOR ending the wars, ending the drug war, auditing the Fed, abolishing the IRS, and other key issues Ron Paul fought for his entire career! Be a leader, not a follower! Stand up now and proudly share your intentions, and then let others follow you!

Jesse Benton, the national campaign chairman for Ron Paul’s 2012 presidential bid, flatly told The Daily Caller on Tuesday that Paul “will not endorse Gary Johnson.”
The decision is not entirely unexpected, as Paul’s son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, spoke at the Republican National Convention last week and has endorsed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

During the Republican convention, Ron Paul refused to endorse Romney amid a bitter fight between Paul supporters and party leaders over delegate spots.

Paul told Bloomberg on Friday that he wasn’t pleased with Romney’s Thursday night convention speech.

“I remain very, very skeptical of hearing anything that will change the course of history,” said Paul. “There was no talk of the Federal Reserve. One of the engines of spending is militarism and empire and he enhanced it. He was on pushing it.”

Paul also praised Johnson, the former Republican governor of New Mexico, at the convention, saying, “I think he’s wonderful and I think he’s doing a good job, and people should look at him and every individual should make up their own mind.”

Earlier this year, Johnson told TheDC that he would not ask for Paul’s endorsement because the libertarian congressman might not grant one in the interests of “the family business” and his son’s political future within the Republican Party.

Paul and Johnson do have some political differences. Johnson vocally supports access to abortion and same-sex marriage, and is comfortable with limited U.S. military intervention for humanitarian purposes overseas.

Johnson, however, has been campaigning for the support of Paul voters.

In 2008 Paul issued an open endorsement of third-party presidential candidates. In 1988 he was the Libertarian Party’s presidential candidate.

On Tuesday evening Paul will appear on Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show,” where he will likely be pressed on the November election.
Several Iowa delegates to the Republican National Convention plan to skip this evening’s session to avoid Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech — the convention’s

“The empty chairs represent, I think, personal feelings that cannot be set aside for the benefit of the process, the sake of the state that we all are here representing,” Stoldorf said during an interview this morning.

Many of the Ron Paul supporters from Iowa have made no secret about their lack of enthusiasm for Romney. Convention delegate Roger Leahy of Fairfield calls the Romney/Ryan ticket the “lesser of two evils” and he may vote for a third party candidate.

“I’m going to still be thinking about it ’til November whatever it is, 6th or 2nd or something,” Leahy said this morning, with a laugh. “I don’t know. I mean, I’ve never actually voted for the lesser of the evils. I’ve always voted for who I thought was the best candidate on the ballot and I’m still looking at that and I think there may be other candidates on the ballot.”

Aaron Dowdell of Marshalltown, an alternate delegate who backed Ron Paul in the Caucuses, said Romney’s speech tonight may be a deciding factor in how he votes this November.

“After some of the things that have gone on, it’s very tough to just openly embrace (Romney) and openly say, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah! I’m going to do that,’” he said this morning. “You know, so I think that tonight’s going to play a large role in how that’s all going to come together, so at this point I’m a little undecided.”

Iowa Republican Party chairman A.J. Spiker worked on Paul’s Caucus campaign, but Spiker said earlier today that he’ll “work tirelessly” to elect Romney this fall.

“I’ll continue to speak out and support the ticket and I believe Romney/Ryan is the only solution,” Spiker said. “I don’t believe third parties are the way to change the country and so I would encourage everybody that might be looking at a different option to vote for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.”

Delegate and Ron Paul supporter Jonas Cutler of West Des Moines said today he’ll “work for the Republican Party of Iowa” — plus, his daughter is in a Romney campaign commercial — but Cutler will not say whether he’ll vote for Mitt Romney.
“We are the future of the Republican Party here,” Cutler replied the fifth time he was asked if he’d vote for Romney.
Delegate Brian Kraft of Boone said he’s going to support the GOP nominee.
“I supported Ron Paul, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to vote for Romney,” Kraft said today.
Drew Ivers, chairman of the Iowa delegation and the leader of Ron Paul’s Iowa Caucus campaign, expects his fellow Ron Paul campaigners to cast their votes for Romney this fall.

“Most of the Ron Paul Republicans are brand new. They don’t understand and they’re idealistic and they’re naive a little and they’re young and they think, ‘Well, if I can’t (win), I’m going to take my ball and go home,’” Ivers said. “But I think they will come around to that.”

Stoldorf — the delegate from Red Oak — said Ron Paul delegates who skip tonight’s convention session are being “unfair” to the vast majority of Republicans back in Iowa who support Romney.

“We’re delegates from the state of Iowa and I represent the voters and I’m here to speak for them,” said Stoldorf.

Stoldorf backed Rick Santorum in the Iowa Caucuses but, as a delegate to the national convention, she was one of six Iowans who voted for Romney this week.

“I’m happy to support our nominee,” Stoldorf said.

State Senator Brad Zaun of Urbandale – an alternate delegate to the convention who points out his candidate, Michele Bachmann, lost, too — said he’s had “disturbing” conversations with many of the Ron Paul supporters from Iowa.

“I’ve had several of them say, ‘I don’t even know if I’m going to vote,’ and that really upsets me,” Zaun said. “Their candidate lost and they’re supposed to be representatives of the Republican Party and they need to get behind Mitt Romney.”

Bobby Eskenberry, an alternate delegate for Colorado and Ron Paul supporter, says the press conference is meant to be respectful to Romney, but will give voice to people who think the Republican National Committee is being coercive this week in Florida.

Eskenberry says proper voice vote procedures weren’t followed on Tuesday when rules that are designed to limit the ability of insurgent presidential candidates to amass delegates at future Republican conventions were voted on.

The new rules will bind delegates to the outcome of presidential primaries and caucuses, preventing a candidate such as Paul from pushing up their delegate counts at state conventions.

It doesn’t affect Colorado, since the state is non-binding, said Ryan Call, state GOP chairman. This means that delegates can change their mind on who to support for president when they get to the convention.

Eskenberry says he and the other Colorado delegates planning on attending the press conference haven’t had any problems with the Colorado leadership.

“We have been treated fairly with our own state people,” Eskenberry said.

Romney earned more than enough delegate votes to make the ballot for November. Of Colorado’s 36 delegate votes, 28 went for Romney and eight abstained because they supported other candidates.

interview, which lasted a little over ten minutes, quickly descended into a perverted game of "fuck, kill, marry." (Giuliani does not want to fuck Ron Paul.)

"I don't get it," he said about the young contingent of voters who still support Ron Paul, Giuliani's old political foe. "I just think they tune out, or they don't understand, or they weren't educated properly.

"I think he's a kook," he admitted. "I think he's a kook, I do." Paul's politics clash strongly with Giuliani's, because Paul had said multiple times that if he'd been president, 3,000 people who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks would still be alive. Giuliani, if you remember, was the city's mayor at the time. He took the veiled insults to heart.

"His views on 9/11, to me, are horrifying," Giuliani said. "I don't understand how people support him. Some of the things he says are, to me, the product of a cranky old man." He went even further, calling Paul taking part in the Republican debates "a total distraction."

He next took a brief moment to talk about Mitt Romney, whom the Republican Party officially nominated as their presidential candidate yesterday at the RNC. Giuliani glossed over Romney's long, celebrated history of moral and political versatility by referring to the nominee as a "pragmatic businessman," who was still better for the country than President Obama.

"President Obama came to the office with very little very experience, in my view, but a very extreme ideology. He was the most partisan member of the United States Senate. People ignore that."

To Giuliani, President Obama is the quintessential liberal, even going as far to say that the president's history as a community activist may have made him anti-American. Mercifully, one of the Daily Beast anchors walked him back.

"You don't think he's anti-American."

"Well, I don't know what he is," Giuliani answered. When the ex-mayor was asked if Obama was socialist, Giuliani said, "I would never say that. What I would say is that he seems to like European socialist democracies more than our capitalist system."

The Daily Beast ended the interview with a question about Missouri congressman Todd Akin, who last week gloriously hypothesized that the woman's body, when "legitimately" raped and impregnated from said rape, "has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

"What does he do for a living besides being a politician?" Giuliani asked. "Is he a lawyer, is he a teacher? He should go do that."
Mr. Paul received 190 delegate votes, versus more than 2,000 for Mitt Romney. But on the convention floor the Paul supporters were seething as they booed loudly and shouted "shame" over the new rules to create an acclamation for the nominee. The GOP leaders said the rule is intended to bind delegates to their commitment based on the primary votes in their states, which probably makes sense.

But the incident was a misstep, according to former Republican National Committee chairman Haley Barbour, who said that the party doesn't need distractions and "overreaching" by the old guard.

Mr. Paul was on the convention floor yesterday and received rowdy applause. When asked if he and his delegates felt robbed, he said: "I'll let you know when it's over."

The most vocal supporters of any candidate inside and outside the convention hall are the Ron Paul brigades. They are young, loud, energized and omnipresent. One group told me that the GOP establishment is "shutting them out" and "stealing delegates." Several Paul supporters brought up the Maine primaries, where they believe that all of their votes weren't counted and that Paul may have beaten Mr. Romney.

The new GOP rules might make sense, but why implement them now, when the Romney campaign needs the Ron Paul troops and their passion. Equally dumb was not allowing Mr. Paul to have an evening speech at the convention as an act of inclusiveness. It wouldn't hurt if Paul Ryan and Mr. Romney chose to acknowledge Paul supporters during their convention speeches.

The stubborn Mr. Paul declined to formally endorse Mr. Romney again yesterday and is playing the role of sore loser. But the spat between the two forces only helps President Obama. So much for the big tent.

rules that could impede insurgent candidates in the future.

The brief uproar was a rare unscripted moment in a carefully-choreographed convention that organizers hoped would showcase Republican harmony over nominee Mitt Romney. After the voice vote on the rules, the next speaker was quickly called in an attempt to limiting the amount of time Paul's supporters had to chant "Shame on you."

The rules are designed to limit the ability of insurgent presidential candidates to amass delegates to future Republican conventions. They will bind delegates to the outcome of presidential primaries and caucuses, preventing a candidate like Paul from pushing up their delegate counts at state conventions.

Paul delegates saw them as a power play by the Republican old guard.

"If you're trying to win a presidential campaign and put on a show, you shouldn't poke a sharp stick in the eye of conservative activists. That's what happened," said Colorado delegate Dudley Brown, who leads a gun rights organization back home.

Paul amassed 177 delegates to this year's convention, even though he didn't win a single primary.

Paul briefly showed up on the convention floor, signing autographs and posing for photos.
As he left the arena, he declined to say if he felt his delegates were being treated unfairly. "I'll let you know when it's over," he said.

Supporters of the new rules say voters expect the delegate count to reflect the outcome of state primaries and caucuses.

The convention's rules committee made slight revisions to updates they made last week before the start of the convention.

The new rules originally allowed presidential candidates to choose which delegates would represent them at the convention — taking that power from state parties. However, in a concession to local activists, party leaders agreed to remove the language. Instead, the rules say that delegates who support candidates other than the one they are obligated to support shall have their votes deemed "null and void."

"These rules will provide a strong governing framework for our convention and for our party," said former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu, who headed the rules committee.

Mississippi Republican National Committeeman Henry Barbour said delegates shouldn't let a rules fight distract from the goal of beating Democratic President Barack Obama.

"None of us want a campaign overreaching," Barbour said. "We want bound delegates to live up to their commitment."
This is a time when Ron Paul Nation needs to be very, very vocal on the Internet and all social media to show those in Tampa that they have tremendous support around the country. The rest of the country is beginning to take notice, as is evident in this article from of all places, CNN, which came out today.

After the gavel closed a shortened session Monday afternoon, two dozen supporters of the Texas congressman congregated under a large sign on the convention floor reading "We can do better."

While the banner, hung by convention organizers, was a criticism of President Barack Obama, the Paul supporters were tweaking the message.

Standing below it, the crew held their own signs from the former 2012 presidential candidate's failed bid, suggesting a tweak at the GOP establishment: that the party would be better off with Paul than Mitt Romney as its presidential nominee.

One convention official told CNN that organizers are not overly concerned about disruptions from Paul's loyal band, noting that the group, which chanted briefly by the sign, was dwarfed by the thousands of Romney supporters who will fill the hall this week. The RNC announced plans to run a video tribute to Paul at the convention.

Besides, the official asked, what would a political convention be without at least some dissent.

an acronym for People Awakening and Uniting for Liberty, was organized for RNC delegates and other liberty activists to pay tribute to Ron Paul and his work in furthering the liberty movement.

Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson delivered a speech to a crowd of about 2,000 on the second day of the event, and was well received by those in attendance. Johnson discussed his long admiration and support for Paul and recounted giving him his endorsement when requested in 2008, as well as supporting Paul after dropping out of the 2012 Republican primaries. He mentioned his tenure as governor of New Mexico and his presidential platform, including his plan to balance the budget. Johnson also spoke about the liberty movement as a whole, stating that it does not end with Ron Paul's presidential run.

Johnson was passionate and fiery throughout his speech, especially when discussing foreign policy and the necessity to cut military spending and end the wars now:

“I'm going to be the only candidate that does not want to bomb Iran. I'm going to be the only candidate who wants to get out of Afghanistan now, bring the troops home! Stop our military interventions! I am outraged by politicians that beat their chests against the terrorist threat, and that comes at the cost of tens of thousands of innocent people being killed in foreign countries, and it results in our men and women coming back in body bags or with their limbs blown off. This has to stop, and it has to stop now!”

Johnson's campaign slogan, “Be Libertarian with me for one election,” was a cornerstone of his speech. As one of three candidates who will be on the ballot in all 50 states, it is imperative for libertarians to unite behind Johnson's candidacy as Paul's comes to an end. Johnson is now the standard bearer for the liberty movement going forward and has the opportunity to have a sizable impact on the election by providing a voice for liberty at the ballot box.
